FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are Medical Facials, Chemical Peels, and Microdermabrasion?
A superficial chemical peel or microdermabrasion is a quick, no-downtime procedure that renews the skin by lifting dead cells from the surface of your skin while stimulating the metabolism of the cells beneath the surface. With a series of treatments you can quickly achieve substantial improvement in the appearance of superficial lines and uneven pigmentation, while making your skin look and feel softer, smoother, and more radiant. Acne scars and enlarged pores should become less noticeable, and acne breakouts less frequent.

Can you combine Chemical Peels with Microdermabrasion and Facials?
While these treatment modalities will produce good results alone, many of these treatments can be combined to enhance the results. A thorough skin analysis will determine the best treatment protocol for your skin type.

What can I expect during and after these treatments?
During a chemical peel, you may feel a burning sensation for a few minutes. A fan is used to reduce this discomfort. Slight redness, skin sensitivity and a tight sensation usually last no more than a day. Uncommonly, flaking and irritation can last up to five days. Your skin will likely feel tighter, smoother and softer than usual. Some patients experience slight stinging, burning or itching during this period.
During a Microdermabrasion, sensitive clients might experience a sensation resembling a mild sunburn. Redness or flushing maybe present for 24 hours, and makeup may be applied to cover this. No recovery period is needed and you can resume your normal activities almost immediately.
Skin may become slightly dehydrated after these treatments, so it is necessary to follow the home care instructions given to you.

Who is a candidate for these procedures?
The treatments we offer are usually suitable for all skin types including those patients with oily, acneic, or sensitive skin. People with tans or skin of color may participate safely with selected peels, microdermabrasion and all the medical facials that we offer.
Individuals who have sunspots, sun-damaged skin, dry, aging skin, oily skin with enlarged pores and acne are also good candidates. In fact, any individual who wishes to maintain healthy, radiant and youthful skin will benefit from these procedures. Women who are pregnant or lactating are not candidates for chemical peels.

What is the cost for a Medical Facial, Chemical Peel, or Microdermabrasion?
Treatments are available individually or at a reduced fee when bought in packages. Please call the office to schedule a complimentary consultation to determine which treatment protocol will most benefit your specific skin concerns.

How long will it take?
Superficial peels have been referred to as “lunch-time peels”. That is because most people who have these procedures can return to work that day and no one will suspect a thing. Mild redness and or flakiness may occur for a day or two, and is easily camouflaged with makeup.

How many treatments will I need?
Depending on the desired effect some people may benefit from only one treatment, others may require a series of treatments over several months. This will be discussed at the time of your consultation.
